Walt Whitman

WALT WHITMAN (1819- 1892), the people’s poet’, is perhaps the most individualistic literury figure that America has ever produced. He began working as a carpenter before his twelfth birthday.
वाल्ट वीटमैन (1819- 1892) को लोगों का कवि कहा जाता है। यह व्यक्तिगत साहित्य लेखन में शायद अमेरिका के साहित्यकारों में सबसे महान थे। यह अपने 12वीं साल से पहले बढ़ई का काम किए।

He also worked as a printer, teacher, and editor and was volunteer nurse during the Civil War.
वह एक प्रकाशक, शिक्षक और संपादक के रूप में भी काम किया और गृह युद्ध में वोलेन्टीयर (जो बिना लाभ के कोई काम करता है।) का काम किया।

Whitman’s poetry, all of which is collected in Leaves of Grass, is known for its free rhythms and lack of rhyme. Whitman first published it at his own expense in 1855.

However, the free form of the poems and the joyful dedications to the ‘importance of the individual’ were not well received at first.
यद्यपि कविताओं का मुक्त रूप और आनंदपूर्ण समर्पण ‘व्यक्तिगत महत्व के लिए‘ पहली बार में स्वीकार नहीं किया गया।

In fact, his collection of poems cost Whitman his job, as it was taken to be obscene. In 1881, after many editions, Leaves of Grass finally found a publisher willing to print it uncensored.

Translations of this collection were enthusiastically received in Europe, but Whitman remained relatively unappreciated in America.
इस संग्रह का अनुवाद यूरोप में उत्साहपूर्ण स्वीकार किया गया। लेकिन वीटमैन अमेरिका में अराहनीय रहे।

It was only after his death that he could win appreciation in America for his original and innovative expression of American individualism.
उनके मृत्यु के बाद ही अमेरिका में स्वीकारिता मिली। यानी स्वीकार किया गया। अमेरिकी व्यक्तिवाद की असली नवीनता (परिवर्तनात्मक) की वजह से उन्हें पसंद किया गया।

His important works include Leaves of Grass (1855) and Drum Taps (1866).
उनकी महत्वपूर्ण रचनाओं में लीव्ज ऑफ ग्रास (1855) और ड्रम टैप्स (1866) शामिल है।

I celebrate myself, and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
for every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.

Hoping to cease not till death,

मुझे उम्मीद है कि मूत्यु तक स्वस्थ्य नहीं रहुँगा।

Creeds and schools in abeyance, .
Retiring back a while sufficed at what they are, but never forgotten,

पंथों और धार्मिक मान्यताओं को नहीं मानता हूँ। (अर्थात लोगों के विचार में इग्नोर कर देता हूँ।)
थोड़ी देर के लिए, उसे भूल जाओ, जो तुम सोचते हो। अर्थात तुम अपनी विचार को थोड़ी देर के लिए भूल जाओ, जो तुम्हारे लिए काफी है लेकिन तुम उसे नहीं भुला सकते हो।

I barbour for good or bad, I permit to speak at every hazard,
