WALTER DE LA MARE (1873-1956) was born in the village of Charlton in Kent, England. He lost his father at the age of four and had to move with his family to London. He is known for his sensitive concerns with the world of children and the world of the supernatural. His Songs for Children and Peacock Pie depict world of dreams. But even in these songs there is a note of ‘melancholy?

वाल्टर डिला मेयर (1873-1956) का जन्म इंग्लैंड के चालार्ट के गाँव में हुआ था। वह चार वर्ष की आयु में अपना पिता खो दिए और अपने परिवार के साथा लंदन चले गए। वह बच्चो के दुनिया के साथ संवेदनशील रचनाओं के लिए जाने जाते हैं। तथा प्राकृतिक दुनिया के लिए जाने जाते हैं। उनकी Songs for children और Peacock pie सपनों की दुनिया को चित्रित करती है। लेकिन इन गीतों में उदासीनता का स्वर होती है।

Here lies a most beautiful lady,
Light of step and heart was she;
I think she was the most beautiful lady That ever was in the West Country.
But beauty vanishes; beauty passes,  However, rare – rare it be; And when I crumble, who will remember
This lady of the West Country?

यहाँ एक सबसे सुंदर महिला पड़ी हुई है।
वह हमेशा इधर-उधर (एक जगह से दूसरे जगह) भटकते रहती थी।
मेरा मानना है वह पश्चिम के देशों में सबसे सुंदर महिला थी।
लेकिन सुंदरता नष्ट हो जाती है और ढ़ल जाती है।
(शायद ही) हालांकि ऐसा दुर्लभ ही होता है। अर्थात ऐसी महिला दुर्लभ ही मिल सकती हैं।
और जब मैं नष्ट हो जाऊँगा तो पश्चिम के देश की इस महिला को कौन याद करेगा।
